The Wedding of Brianna & Kenneth
Punta Cana
Quick Facts:
Location –
Punta Cana is a beach destination located on the eastern most tip of Dominican Republic along the Atlantic Ocean.
Weather –
Boasting a tropical climate year round makes Punta Cana a very popular destination. The average temperature sits around 26 Celsius and the hottest months are April – November. Due to its flat landscape there is very little rainfall.
Getting around –
It is highly recommended that you book your inter-island transportation through your tour operator or hotel. When you have a package booked your transfers to and from the airport are included.
Currency –
The official currency is the Dominican Peso however US dollars are widely accepted in tourist areas as well as the resorts.
Language spoken –
Spanish is the official language throughout the Dominican Republic so it doesn’t hurt to know a few phrases – although you will pick them up fast in destination. Most employees at resorts can speak English however it is not their first language.
Electricity –
The standard electricity supply is 110 volts; therefore you will not need convertors if you are travelling from Canada or the US, unless you are bringing 220 volt devices (hotels will often offer convertors).
What To Do:
Excursions –
Santa Domingo is the first European settlement of the Western Hemisphere and it has preserved its colonial heritage. Recognized by UNESCO as a world heritage site, it is a must see for history and culture lovers.
Bavaro Runners is a popular safari excursion in the Punta Cana area where you can experience the real people, scenery and day to day life of the Dominican Republic.
Manati Park is for the animal lovers. This Park features exotic fish, horse, parrots and the opportunity to swim with dolphins. Spend your time strolling through lush gardens where there are many photo opportunities or shop for local crafts in the souvenir shops.
Visit your tour operator’s website for a more extensive list of what is available in Punta Cana.
Shopping –
If you are looking for shops you shouldn’t have to look far. Along the beachfront in Bavaro there are shops owned by locals. Shopping off your resort complex can be an adventure so it is recommended to book a shopping excursion through your tour operator or hotel. Bartering is common so if you see something outrageously priced feel free to offer a lower price.
Nightlife –
Many resorts in Punta Cana are known for their nightlife. If this is something that is important to you ask before going what kind of clubs/bars your resort offers. There is also the option to go to other resorts in the evening to take advantage of what they have to offer.
Golf –
If golfing is really important to you there are many resorts that offer golf on site which makes it easy to golf every day if that is what you want to do! There are currently 12 golf courses in Punta Cana and more under construction all the time, many of which are world class and designed by professionals.
