Holguin

Location – 

Holguin is the name of the city as well as region it is located in. Found in the south eastern part of Cuba,  Holguin has beautiful beaches and when Christopher Columbus saw it for the first time he exclaimed it to be the most beautiful land human eyes have ever seen.

Weather –

Average day time temperatures range between 22 and 30 degrees Celsius. There are two seasons, dry season and wet season. Dry season runs from November – April and wet or rainy season runs from May through October. Holguin enjoys a warmer climate than most of the rest of Cuba because of it’s location.

Getting around –

Your transfer to and from the airport to your resort will be included when you book a package vacation. If you are planning to venture off property it is recommended that you purchase an excursion through your tour operator or resort.  Getting around is quite simple in Holguin – taxis, car and bike rentals are all available readily.

Language spoken –

Spanish is the official language in Cuba. In tourist areas English is commonly spoken by resort staff although it is not their first language.

Electricity –

The common voltage used in Cuba is 220 volts; therefore if you are travelling from Canada or the US you will need a convertor to use any of your electrical appliances.

Travel into the city of Holguin for the best shopping options. The most popular of these is the Plaza de la Marqueta. Here you will find a historic shopping plaza located on the ruins of a former market, today you will see many modern shops including ones where you can buy one of the most popular of Cuban souvenirs, cigars.
